Biography
Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba is the Ordinary Bishop of Masaka Diocese. He was born on 2nd August 1962 at Bulando Village, Kitovu Parish. He attended St. Augustine’s and St. Paul Primary School in Kitovu, Masaka, before joining Bukalasa Minor Seminary in Kalungu District. He continued his studies at St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary in Katigondo and completed theological studies at St. Mary’s National Major Seminary in Ggaba, Kampala.
Priesthood
On 20th June 1992 he was ordained a priest by Bishop Henry A. Ssentongo. He served as a curate in Mpambire Parish (1992-1993), a Teacher and Bursar of Bukalasa Minor Seminary (1993 – 2000) and Diocesan Treasurer (2000 – 2014). He was appointed Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia on 15th April, 2014.
Episcopal Appointment
On 16th April 2019, he was appointed by Pope Francis as the new Bishop of Masaka Diocese following the retirement of Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa (RIP). He was consecrated and installed as Bishop on 6th July, 2019 by Bishop John Baptist Kaggwa (RIP), assisted by Bishop Joseph Anthony Zziwa (Kiyinda Mityana Diocese), Bishop Lambert Bainomugisha (Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese), Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga (RIP) (Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese) and Archbishop Luigi Bianco (Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda).
