Bukasa Parish Development Launched

The Christians in the 84 Islands of Ssese in Kalangala District, Masaka Diocese have thanked the Bishop of Masaka for allowing them to have a parish so that they can receive the sacraments and the word of God. The district has always had one parish of Bumangi which was started in 1889 until 2021 when Rev. Serverus Jjumba agreed and inaugurated Bukasa as a parish out of Bumangi to facilitate Christians to reach the services of the church.

The Bumangi Christians led by the Ssabafumbo,  Yowanna Maria Kayima Kayizzi and Deputy Ssabakristu, Yowakimu Kato said the situation was difficult in terms of satisfying the souls of the Christians in the remote islands and transportation was not easy. They said they loved it and thanked the Bishop for thinking of them and asked him to add more clergy to serve them.

However, the Bishop during his two-day visit gave the sacrament of confirmation to the children, at both parishes of Bumangi and Bukasa and launch the development of Bukasa starting with fund raising to start building houses for priests in Bukasa.  He added that Christians should not run away from carrying the cross because it is a very important symbol in the church

Rev. Fr Kizito Mujuzi Kakungulu, the Parish Priest of Bumangi Parish and Rev. Fr. John Fisher Kiyimba, the Parish Priest of Bukasa Parish thanked the Bishop for visiting the Christians in the two parishes and confirming children in the catholic faith.
